The technique adopted by Nick’s lessons is considered the most unique method for piano performance, based on a deep understanding of styles and history of music, and a particular emphasis on the ability to ‘sing’ on the instrument. Nick’s university professors spent their lifetime researching and establishing this distinctive approach to learning the European piano technique. The founding father of the European piano school, Heinrich Neuhaus, is renowned for the poetic magnetism of his playing and artistic refinement. His many students, including Yakov Zak, Sviatoslav Richter and Emil Gilels, are now the most iconic names in piano history.
Lessons are taught in consideration to continue the teaching traditions of Moscow State University piano school and the footsteps of Heinrich Neuhaus.
Nick’s teachings allow students to obtain a strong foundation in piano skills – both practically, through correct positioning of the hand, and musically, by understanding and achieving technical freedom to create a beautiful tone, phrasing and expression.
